Dia de los Muertos: the day of the dead, where you can remember lost loved ones and celebrate life with those who remain. Although observed primarily in Mexico, several cultures have their own similar holidays, and even if you don’t, the sandwich just looks cool!

This recipe takes the standard peanut butter and jelly sandwich and turns it into something special for the holidays. The trick is to build the sandwich from the bottom up, with the jelly on top of the peanut butter so that you can cut the designs into the top piece of bread before you put it all together. You can use anything to decorate this, or even gather up a wide variety of options, make the sandwiches, and let the kids go to town. It’s simple, works for picky eaters, and will hold everyone over until the Fiambre or other main dish is ready!
