What do ham and cheese and football and sandwiches have in common? They’re all matches made in heaven. Soul mates. Partners for life. You get the picture; now, get the recipe!

  1. Lay out two pieces of bread, spread one with mayo and the other with mustard. Starting with the mayo-slathered piece, lay down a piece of freshly washed radicchio.
  2. Place a piece of cheese on top of the radicchio, and then pile on some black forest ham (get the good stuff – no ham “loafs”).
  3. Top with the remaining piece of bread, and then cut the sandwich at an angle.
  4. With a toothpick, poke holes for the laces on each section directly across from one another. Cut chives into small 1-inch pieces, and insert these into the holes to create the laces.
